Saxenda is a remedy for people with excess weight who suffer from weight-related deseases (e.g., high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes mellitus) or obesity. Also, it can be prescribed for children from age 12 to 17 with body weight above 60 kg (132 pounds). Doctors do not know if Saxenda is safe for kids under the age of 12 or for kids with type 2 diabetes.

Storage: Before using the liraglutide pen for the first time, store it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. After first use, liraglutide can be stored at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Product Information: Saxenda is a once-daily injection that you administer to yourself to aid weight loss. It is an injectable prescription medicine used for adults with excess weight (BMI ≥27) who also have weight-related medical problems or obesity (BMI ≥30), and children aged 12-17 years with a bodyweight above 132 pounds (60 kg) and obesity to help them lose weight and keep the weight off. Saxenda should be used with a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Instructions for use:
Before using, check this product visually for particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use the liquid. Before injecting each dose, clean the injection site with rubbing alcohol. Change the injection site each time to lessen injury under the skin. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day.
Dose escalation should be followed to reduce the likelihood of gastrointestinal symptoms; dose escalation may be delayed by 1 additional week if necessary.
Inject your dose under the skin (this is called subcutaneous injection) in your stomach area (abdomen), upper leg (thigh), or upper arm as instructed by your healthcare provider. Do not inject into a vein or muscle.
Week 1: Inject 0.6 mg subcutaneously once a day.
Week 2: Inject 1.2 mg subcutaneously once a day.
Week 3: Inject 1.8 mg subcutaneously once a day.
Week 4: Inject 2.4 mg subcutaneously once a day.
Week 5: Inject 3 mg subcutaneously once a day.
Maintenance dose: 3 mg subcutaneously once a day.
What happens if I miss a dose?
If you miss your daily dose of Saxenda, use the dose as soon as you remember. Then take your next daily dose as usual on the following day. Do not take an extra dose of Saxenda or increase your dose on the following day to make up for your missed dose.
Do not use Saxenda if:
You or any of your family have ever had MTC or if you have MEN 2. You are allergic to liraglutide or any of the ingredients in Saxenda You are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. SaxendaR may harm your unborn baby.
Side effect
The most common side effect of Saxenda in adults include nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, injection site reaction, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), headache, tiredness (fatigue), dizziness, stomach pain, and change in enzyme (lipase) levels in your blood. Additional common side effects in children are fever and gastroenteritis. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including signs of kidney problems (such as change in the amount of urine), yellowing eyes/skin, fast heartbeat, mental/mood changes (such as depression, thoughts of suicide), signs of low blood sugar (sudden sweating, shaking, fast heartbeat, hunger, blurred vision, dizziness, or tingling hands/feet).
Caution
Do not share your pen device with another person, even if the needle is changed. You may give other people a serious infection or get a serious infection from them. Change the needle before every injection.
Saxenda overdose
If you take too much Saxenda, call your healthcare provider right away. Too much Saxenda may cause severe nausea and vomiting.
